SPECIAL  EVENTS RELEVANT TO THE PUN-OFF

Our support group for the jeering impaired, Punsters United Nearly
Yearly, (P.U.N.Y.) is pleased to have arranged a number of special
events associated with the O.Henry Pun-Off. On this page we will
attempt to tempt you with a few details of these opportunities to
collide and collaborate with your fellow punsters. Of course attending
the competition itself might already be more than you can handle, but
if you're half as swept away with competitive wordplay as we are,
there should be a little broom in your life to attend one of these.

Please explore some of

the listings on this page

and check back in often

as we will be adding sum.

Even though these gatherings

are at eateries, you need binomials.

By offering these social interaction

opportunities we hope to inspire

you and prepare you for the actual

competition to come on May 17.

Even if we can't expect your

undivided attention, we'd still

love to halve you there.

EXTRA CREDIT EVENTS FOR ASPIRING PUNSTERS

Watch this page for frequent 2008 updates! - (Sorry for running this too far across the page. I can just barely control what I'm doing here!)

1 - Thursday, May 1, 7-10pm. - PUNSTER CATTLE CALL (Food, beer and, at most, fear!) Billy's on Burnet. 2105 Hancock Dr.in Austin.<http://billysonburnet.com/> This will be the first in our series of warm-up events for those who need to hone their cutting edges a little. If you've attended these gatherings before, you'll know what I mean. It's a friendly way to spar with your potential rivals in the PunSlinger competition without risking a crash'n'burn. You'll get the know some of the personalities and quirks that may prove to be their weak points. ("I think achilles heels if they don't shut up and let me make my pun.")

2 - Friday, May 2, 7-8pm - PUNSTER SHOWCASE AT BARNES & NOBLE (Simulated Pun-Off w/o pressure or prizes) Barnes & Noble Westlake (701 S. Capital of Texas Hwy) This will be a Pun-Off sampler presented to unwitting book shoppers and a lucky few patrons who are brave enough to face our guerilla theatre style. The format will be fluid, incorporating improvised punning on traditional topics and some audience precipitation. (a.k.a. crying) Mostly it's yet another way for you to wit your whistle as you prepare for the "real deal." It's also not a bad bookstore either. B&N is billing this as "Where road scholars meet their dead ends." See you there?

3 - Friday, May 9, 7-10pm. - PUNSTER CATTLE CALL (More food, beer & cameraderie) Opal Divine's Freehouse (Downtown) - 700 W.6th - http://www.opaldivines.com/. This will be yet another warm-up event for those who need to hone their cutting edges a little. It's a friendly way to spar with your potential rivals in the PunSlinger competition without risking a crash'n'burn. We try to locate these things centrally, and this one is about as central as they get.

4 - Friday, May 16, 6-11pm. - P.U.N.Y. PUNSTER BANQUET P.O.T.Y. ROAST - (Reservations required)http://punpunpun.com/19657.html Click through to this link to find out all the details on this.

If you're pretty sure you'll be attending the Annual P.U.N.Y. Punster
Banquet P.O.T.Y. Roast on Friday, May 16, please DO go ahead and make
that reservation today! Seating is limited. It's the same webpage where the contestants register.

<http://application.microassist.net/punoff>

If you've already registered as a contestant (or mailing list only),
please don't re-register just to make your dinner reservation. Just
drop me a private note indicating how many seats to save for your
party and I'll fix you up. <gary@hallock.net> You can also phone me at 512-973-9929

We will have a limited amount of seating available for this event, so
I am urging you to indicate your intentions in some form soon. This
gig is almost half fool all ready.
